The debut comes after Taylor, an American whose parents are Panamanian immigrants, had initially played for his native United States of America at the U-21 and Olympic-23 levels. However, his eligibility for the Panama team was preserved as he had not been called up by the US Senior Team.

With the draw, Panama concludes international play for 2016. Taylor, whose MLS season with NYFC ended 10 days ago, will now look to build on his year during the off-season.

NEW YORK – New York City Football Club were eliminated from the MLS Cup Playoffs by Toronto Impact last night in a 5-0 match at Yankee Stadium. City, who made significant strides in their 2nd MLS Season, will look back on 2016 as an improvement, despite their playoff elimination.

City, a club founded in 2013, enjoyed their best season to-date in 2016, with their 15-9-10 record constituting an improvement from 8th place to 2nd place in the Eastern conference, and an even more immense rise from 17th to 4th overall in the MLS.

Tony Taylor Trains with the Panama National Team

Tony Taylor was selected today to participate in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches for Panama. The coming matches will pit Panama against fellow Central American Nations Honduras and Mexico, and Taylor will look to help the Panama squad which, despite scoring 14 goals in 15 matches so far in 2016, has been shut out in 8 of its matches.

Taylor, 27, is coming off his first full season in the MLS, in which he scored 2 goals and added an assist in 14 appearances (7 starts).
